Ronda Rousey did a quick video interview with USA TODAY about Anderson Silva’s grotesque leg break against Chris Weidman at UFC 168. She’s somewhat blase about it all
:
“Stuff like that is bound to happen,” Rousey said at a recent media event for her next fight against Sara McMann. “Like (UFC President) Dana (White) said, those exact injuries happen in basketball. … Regardless of what you’re doing, there’s going to be inherent risk involved. Inherent risk in a kick is not anywhere near something like gymnastics, or judo, or football. In judo, we’ve had several deaths and people getting paralyzed from getting their necks broken.
“It’s just unfortunate that it happened at all. But I don’t think it’s bad for the sport. It’s bound to happen – it’s part of what we do. We just have to accept it for what it is and keep rolling.”
Like the first time I tapped Miesha, I moved the way I did so I could punch her in the face if she didn’t tap. I wasn’t checking on her arm. It’s calculated. Her arm dislocated a little on the first attempt and that’s how she got out. You get a little more range of motion when you dislocate a joint. It’s problem solving.”
Rousey defends her belt next against Sara McMann at UFC 170.
