The past month has been a bit quiet for fans of the Sweet Science, but this past weekend, the 2014 boxing season got underway with HBO’s Bute vs. Pascal. That event may not have been a barnburner, but there is plenty of good stuff coming up. Here are the upcoming fight cards on HBO and Showtime:
Jan. 25 (HBO)
Mikey Garcia vs. Juan Carlos Burgos
Bryant Jennings vs. Artur SzpilkaJan. 25 (Sho)
Lamont Peterson vs. Dierry Jean
Jermell Charlo vs. Gabriel RosadoMar. 1 (HBO)
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Bryan Vera
Orlando Salido vs. Vasyl LomachenkoMar. 8 (Sho PPV)
Canelo Alvarez vs. Alfredo Angulo
Omar Figueroa vs. Ricardo Alvarez
Leo Santa Cruz vs. Cristian Mijares
Jermall Charlo vs. Carlos Molina
Not confirmed, but rumored for April are both Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley II, and Adrien Broner vs. Marcos Maidana II. Also in April, Wladimir Klitschko will face Alex Leapai. And all accounts seem to indicate that we are not far from an official announcement of Floyd Mayweather vs. Amir Khan on May 3.
This coming Saturday is a busy one, with cards on both networks. HBO seems to have the better main event in Garcia vs. Burgos, but Showtime has the superior supporting fight in Rosado vs. Charlo. The March 1 HBO event should be a great one, and then March 8 starts the year’s PPV run. This is Canelo’s first time taking the spotlight on his own – it will be interesting to see just how he draws on PPV in the lead position.
Good start to the year here – what are you most looking forward to?
