Michael Johnson is looking to capitalize on a pair of tremendous performances with a fight that would put him into the UFC lightweight title hunt. Johnson originally was looking for a fight with Nate Diaz, something that seemed great on paper. With that fight now seeming to not be in the cards for Johnson, he tweeted out “Well @danawhite if @NateDiaz209 don’t wanna scrap with me I think the people want me & @TeamKhabib @ufc” asking the UFC and president Dana White for a fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov.
This is the exchange that followed:
@TeamKhabib let’s make this happen @ufc 172 call joe and ask him to set it up! What do u think @danawhite

It was only a short time ago that the Diaz/Nurmagomedov fight not happening led to this tweet from White:
@EDLEZGIN @TeamKhabib @NateDiaz209 nobody wants to fight Khabib

Nurmagomedov is on a 5-0 run in the UFC with a career 21-0 record.
White has never made a secret of his love of guys stepping up for tough fights and this is a great fight on paper so it wouldn’t be shocking to see it come to fruition.
