Heavyweight Antonio Silva hit career high popularity after going to a majority draw in his 5-round war with Mark Hunt at UFC Fight Night 33. Unfortunately, “Bigfoot” Silva failed his post fight drug test for elevated testosterone despite having been granted an exemption for testosterone replacement therapy for the fight. The failed test lost him a $50K Fight of the Night bonus, his win bonus, and earned him a nine month suspension.
With the suspension keeping him out of action for the better part of 2014, Bigfoot went under the knife for shoulder surgery last week. He posted a post-surgery photo to Instagram:
After hours of surgery in my shoulder I’m very well and I will be back 100% thank you everyone.
Silva will not be eligible to fight again until September. However, the UFC won’t book him again until his suspension is officially over, so don’t expect to see him in the Octagon before October or November.
