Heading into it, UFC 168 definitely had the feel of a big event and the numbers look to be supporting that feeling. The UFC pulled 14,574 people into the sold out MGM Grand Garden Arena on December 28 to see Anderson Silva break his own leg against Chris Weidman’s shin in the main event. Of the over 14.5K in attendance, the UFC only comped 1,076 tickets.
Another Anderson Silva headlined show in UFC 148 set the high water mark for an MMA event live gate in Nevada at $6.9M. The final UFC event of 2013 also came up just short in attendance against 148 which came in just below at 15,104.
In addition to the middleweight title headliner, UFC 168 also featured Ronda Rousey picking up her second defense of the women’s bantamweight championship with a third round armbar over rival Miesha Tate. Travis Browne knocked out Josh Barnett early in their heavyweight fight to earn a number one contenders fight against Fabricio Werdum later in the year.
