Let’s face it, UFC Fight Night 34 was severely lacking in relevance. All four of the main card winners picked up their first victories in the organization so it’s not like they’re going to be shooting for the stars right away. But with that being said, at least the main and co-main event winners could be players in their division at some point. And it’ll be interesting to see what they do with the main event loser. Without further ado, let’s take a look at who the main carders might get booked against in their next bout.
Tarec Saffiedine – He probably wants to fight again soon even though he just went five rounds. Unfortunately for him, nearly every highly-ranked welterweight is booked over the next few months. They could re-book him against Jake Ellenberger, but Saffiedine’s win might have moved him past that. I’d personally like to see him take on the winner of the Jake Shields vs. Hector Lombard fight at UFC 171.
Hyun Gyu Lim – While it was a solid performance and he showed a lot of heart, it’s clear that he’s not a top-10 welterweight at this point in his career yet. I think a good matchup for Lim’s next bout would be against someone like Kenny Robertson, who brings good wrestling and a solid chin into the cage.
Tatsuya Kawajiri – I already have him in the top 10 of the featherweight division, despite just a single UFC win. If they’re looking to match him up with top fighters right away, a good style matchup would be against Dennis Siver. Dustin Poirier would be an interesting fight too.
Sean Soriano – He seems like a pretty good prospect that just got thrown in with a shark way too soon. My guess is that he’ll get a debuting fighter next, and he’ll probably win.
Kiichi Kunimoto – There’s not much you can take from a fight that went three minutes and ended because of legal strikes. He’ll be used on the Asian cards for sure, and will probably face a debuting fighter as well in his next bout.
Luiz Dutra – I think he’ll probably get released for his actions. Arguing with the referee when it was plainly obvious that the shots were illegal isn’t cool, and the UFC has shown that they have no time for that kind of thing.
Kyung Ho Kang – He finally picked up the first win of his UFC career, but he definitely had to work for it. It might be a good idea to match him up with a guy that picked up a win on the undercard, Russell Doane.
Shunichi Shimizu – It’s almost a given that he drops to 125 for his next bout considering…well, he’s kinda small for bantamweight. As with the other guys, he’ll likely get a debuting fighter.
