
The co-main event of UFC Fight Night 34 out of Singapore featured the UFC debut of longtime top Lightweight Tatsuya Kawajiri. “Crusher” was riding a five-fight win streak into his fight against against Sean Soriano who was also debuting.
Kawajiri came in for a takedown following a Soriano leg kick. He ate a knee for his effort than was shook off. Another takedown attempt form Kawajiri, but he couldn’t bring Soriano down. A quick exchange on the feet and again Kawajiri relentlessly pursuing the takedown. He got Soriano down for a second, but ate some powerful elbows in the process. He stayed persistent, though and got back control. Kawajiri locks in the body triangle while looking for the rear naked choke. The choke wasn’t there and he began landing blows from back mount for the final minute of the round.
Kawajiri right back to it in the second round and it didn’t take him long to score a throw from the clinch. he immediately locked on the rear naked choke. Soriano tried to hold on. It looked like he tapped, but the referee didn’t see it and Crusher held on until Soriano was unconscious.
