Travis Browne suffered a setback when Antonio Silva knocked him out. It was a detour for a career that people thought could be headed toward a heavyweight championship. But now he’s riding high, knocking out Alistair Overeem and then beating Josh Barnett with a flurry of elbows tonight at UFC 168.
Here’s how the Bloody Elbow live blog describedthe action.
R1: Barnett’s outside low kick is countered by a quick left hook from Browne. Barnett looks for cage pressure via the clinch but Browne slips free. Browne again cracks Barnett with a counter, this time a short right, as he’s throwing a low kick. Barnett tries to clinch up and control the head, then changes levels for a double when Browne runs out of real estate. Showing uncanny reaction ability, Browne amazingly times a counter knee to the body and discharges a thunderous salvo of short downward elbows to the side of Barnett’s head. And he goes limp and crumbles. A career-defining and downright frightening performance from “Hapa.”
