Anderson Silva’s freak leg injury against Chris Weidman at UFC 168 will be a moment long remembered by UFC fans. In the second round, as Silva launched a leg kick at his foe, Weidman raised his leg to check the kick. Silva’s leg snapped and he collapsed to the ground, clutching his shin.

The break was clearly significant, and replays and photos show that the leg appeared to break completely a bit up from the ankle.

Brett Okamoto of ESPN tweeted the following update:

Silva could very well be done after the injury. He is 38 years old and it is going to be a long, long road to recovery if he wants to compete at a high athletic level again.

We likely won’t have answers on what is next for Silva for a while as he has to deal with surgery and recovery first.
