In all likelihood, Alexander Gustafsson’s title fight loss to Jon Jones will go down as the best fight of 2013 in a year (which still has one major event left!) where we’ve been spoiled with incredible bouts. The Light Heavyweight contender was lined up to face Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in the main event of UFC Fight Night in London, but Lil’ Nog is not healthy enough to compete on March 8th. With the division mostly booked and thin to begin with, England’s own Jimi Manuwa has stepped up for a five round main event that provides him the biggest opportunity of his career.
Meanwhile, Ross Pearson and Melvin Guillard settle the score in a rematch following their October encounter ending in a no contest. Guillard, who was dominating early on, kneed Pearson in the head while he was considered “downed”, which prompted an early end to a very impressive showing by Guillard in the opening round. Brad Pickett drops to flyweight to meet Ian McCall in what should be a barnburner, and Ilir Latifi returns to the Octagon to fight Cyrille Diabate.
The whole card will air in the day time (start time TBD) on the UFC Fight Pass online network.
Here’s what the lineup looks like so far:
Alexander Gustafsson vs. Jimi Manuwa
Ross Pearson vs. Melvin Guillard
Brad Pickett vs. Ian McCall
Cyrille Diabate vs. Ilir Latifi
Gunnar Nelson vs. Omari Akhmedov
Brad Scott vs. Claudio Silva
Luke Barnatt vs. Mats Nilsson
Igor Araujo vs. Danny Mitchell
