Ronda Rousey hopes to fight Holly Holm before she retires

Women’s MMA has come a long way in the past few years, but truly marquee match-ups are still far and few between. Ronda Rousey is WMMA’s biggest star and her upcoming bout with Miesha Tate is being sold as a new budding rivalry, but their first fight didn’t leave a lot to the imagination. And, as talented as Tate is, she’s coming off a brutal loss to Cat Zingano.

So MMA fans would be forgiven if their imaginations run a little wild looking for big fights.

Holly Holm’s transition from boxing to MMA has opened a lot of eyes and been exciting enough to fit that “what if?” bill. Holm has been destroying her competition with diverse and technically sound striking while working on her grappling game.

Rousey is aware of what Holm is doing and is saying all the right things about wanting to see her across the cage before she hangs up the gloves (via MMA Junkie):

“I would love to fight Holly Holm,” Rousey told MMAjunkie. “I would absolutely love to fight Holly Holm.”

“I really hope that the UFC picks Holly up and that I get to fight her before I retire,” she said.

Holm and her team have already said that they’ve had multiple talks with the UFC and Dana White has acknowledged that he’s getting fan pressure to bring her in but hasn’t ever seen her fight.

It would seem only a matter of time before Holm is in the UFC, and from there it’s up to her to earn the title shot.
