Mixed martial arts fans have probably come to terms with the fact that they will be forking over a few more bucks for the UFC 168 pay-per-view. By now, the news has circulated that the UFC’s year-end extravaganza will cost an additional $5, putting the cost for the high-def version of the broadcast in the $60 price range.
The subject of the price increase was covered during the media scrum that followed Saturday’s UFC on Fox 9 fight card.
UFC president Dana White was asked why the price was increasing. In response, White shrugged his shoulders and answered with a simple “‘Cuz.”
White followed that up by saying the increase would only affect UFC 168, and that the price would go back to the normal $55 range for UFC 169. The reasoning behind the increase for that sole pay-per-view was because:
Some guys got together in the office, and decided to do that.
White then offered a solution for those balking at the increase:
It’s five bucks, get a couple more friends. Have them come over.
The UFC president then admitted that he hadn’t heard any feedback from the fans on the subject, but:
I’m sure a lot of people aren’t thrilled about it, but what are you going to do? What are you going to do?
UFC 168 will take place on December 28 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The event will feature two title fights. In the main event, Chris Weidman will defend the Middleweight title against Anderson Silva. The co-main event will see women’s Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey defending her title against Miesha Tate.
