Dana White: Nick Diaz turned down fight with Carlos Condit, maybe he’ll return in May

Following a destruction of Martin Kampmann at UFC Fight Night 27, former Welterweight interim champion Carlos Condit was scheduled to fight Matt Brown at Saturday’s UFC on Fox 9. Unfortunately, Brown was forced to pull out of the fight after suffering from two herniated discs just a week out from fight night.

With the division shook up after former champion Georges St-Pierre vacated the belt, Dana White said they were planning to go ‘a different direction’ with Condit. White wants him to fight on the UFC 171 card where Johny Hendricks will battle Robbie Lawler for the vacant title.

In a post-fight interview with Ariel Helwani following UFC on Fox 9, White revealed that he’d approached former contender Nick Diaz to fight Condit in March. According to the UFC president, Diaz turned down the fight. While not definitive on any return from retirement, White said that “maybe” Diaz will return to the Octagon in May.
