Lightweight Josh Thomson impressed in his UFC debut with a second round TKO over former contender Nate Diaz. The win earned him the right to challenge champion Anthony Pettis at the upcoming UFC on Fox 9 event after T.J. Grant was unable to take the fight due to injury. Unfortunately, Pettis suffered an injury in training and was forced to pull out of the fight. In their stead, Flyweights Demtrious Johnson and Joseph Benavidez will fight for the championship.
With the weekend now open for Thomson the UFC has plugged him into the Fight Club Fan Q&A scheduled for Friday afternoon. The event will precede the weigh-ins and is scheduled for 5p ET (2p PT). Thomson will be on stage for about an hour answering questions from the UFC’s Fight Club members.
UFC on Fox 9 will go down Saturday, December 14 at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, CA. The co-main event features a Bantamweight fight between former contenders Urijah Faber and Michael McDonald.
