In the main event of UFC Fight Night 33, Heavyweight Mark Hunt met Antonio Silva in the Octagon.
Silva clearly concerned about Hunt’s power early. He stayed on the outside, backing off any time the ‘Super Samoan’ came in. Hunt backed Silva off a couple times, before geting caught by a shot from Bigfoot. Silva tried to capitalize but Hunt was able to recover and escape. Silva tried to clinch up, but Hunt was able to counter that position and end the round at range.
Round two was a close back and forth on the feet. Bigfoot didn’t land a devastating strike like he did in the first but still landed more effective shots from distance.Despite almost overwhelming prediction that this would be an early finish, the two big men showed up for a war of attrition.
Despite being the lesser grappler it was hunt who hit the big takedown in the third round. He couldn’t hold him down long and Silva initiated a clinch of his own shortly after. Hunt was able to reverse and seperate. He landed a huge right hand that sent Bigfoot to the mat. Hunt was a little slow to follow, but finished the round dealing shots from top position.
Fourth round started with a lot of clinching. Hunt took the advantage with a takedown and worked from top position Silva got up. Hunt looked like he could finish a couple times before a trip led to Silva taking top position.l He absolutely brutalized hunt from there. Elbow and punches hurt the Super Samoan, but Bigfoot couldn’t finish before the round ending bell.
The Final round came and both men were exhausted. Hunt landed the first big blow. Silva looked for a clinch but couldn’t get the takedown before being shrugged off. Both men were swinging for the fences, but it was Hunt landing the better blows and ripped open a big cut over Bigfoot’s left eye. The ref stopped the action for the doctor to check the laceration. The doc gave a pass and both men continued swinging gassed hooks.
Mark Hunt and Antonio Silva stood side-by-side in a majority draw when the scorecards were read (48-47 Hunt, 47-47 x 2)
