The Flyweight division opened up UFC 167 on PPV with Tim Elliott facing off against Ali Bagautinov. Elliot came into the fight on a two fight win streak and having gone 2-1 in the UFC. Bagautinov won his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night 28 with a 3rd round TKO finish.
Elliott and Bagautinov went back and forth over their 15 minute fight. Elliot took the center of the Octagon. He kept his hands low baiting Bagautinov. Despite the pressure from Elliott, it was Bagautinov who landed the more damaging blows. he got past a couple submission attempts and hit a big slam in the second round. Elliott did better in the final round, but it wasn’t enough to take back the lead. When the judges’ cards came out, all three awarded the fight to Ali Bagautinov.
