When it rains, it pours. ONE Fighting Championship’s 12th event in Malaysia happens tomorrow, but there have been several last minute changes to the card, which eventually led to the main event title fight being cancelled and a late replacement catchweight bout being bumped up as the headliner.
Originally to be headlined by an inaugural welterweight title fight between Adam Kayoom and Nobutatsu Suzuki, ONE FC 12 was forced to have multiple changes on their line up. Also rumored to have contractual issues behind the scenes prior, the BJJ black belt and Muay Thai champ in Kayoom had to withdraw from the card due to a rib injury.
Unbeaten prospect Vitor Pinto was then tapped to step in against Suzuki in a non-title fight, but as announced today, he too has been forced off the card after failing to pass medical exams. The bout has since been scrapped, with the co-headliner now being bumped up to the main event.
This new headliner is now Adriano Moraes vs. Yusup Saadulaev, and it will be contested at a catchweight as it was also a result of some last minute changes. Originally a bout between Moraes and KOTC flyweight champ Josh Paiva had also been changed, with Saadulaev stepping in for the American on very short notice.
So even with a string of unfortunate events for the Asian MMA promotion, the show will still push through in Malaysia tomorrow, and the remaining fighters on the card have all made weight.
