Dwight Howard isn’t exactly known as the toughest man in the NBA. In fact, much of his last year has involved putting up with accusations of being “soft” for a big man from Kobe Bryant and Shaq among many others.
But that hasn’t stopped Howard — perhaps the NBA’s king of unfunny guys who think they’re hilarious — from telling Dana White that he’d take a UFC fight for $10 million.
USA Today’s For The Win blog discusses the exchange from the recent Dana White VLOG for Fight for the Troops:
Dwight Howard may be making a quick venue change: From the basketball court to the UFC Octagon. During a backstage visit at a UFC fight in Houston, the Rockets’ big man told UFC president Dana White recently that he’d be willing to go into the cage … for $10 million.
“I would get up there and fight. If I get knocked out, I get knocked out,” Howard said. “I’ll get back up one day.”
White immediately interjected. “I want to do that pay-per-view when you’re ready, man,” he said.
Obviously there are a million reasons this wouldn’t happen. But we can probably stop with the simple fact that it wouldn’t happen before Howard retired from the NBA as his contract obviously wouldn’t allow it.
Plus…you know, all the other reasons that it’s not serious.
But hey, it’s something to talk about on a slow Thursday night. And the mental image of him getting cracked in the cage is a little bit funny.
