UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre has a huge task in front of him at UFC 167, and his name is Johny Hendricks. But one other potential future challenger has been making noises about fighting GSP lately, and that’s Bellator welterweight champ Ben Askren. Askren is currently a free agent and is awaiting an offer from the organization, but GSP was still asked about a potential bout. And he’s all for it: (via MMA Junkie):
“Of course (I’d like to fight him). He’s a good fighter, undefeated, and yes, if he comes, I’ll fight him. No problem.”
…
“Bring him in; I’ll fight everyone. I am the champion, and I have no choice, so it’s no problem. I’m not afraid.”
Askren hasn’t let his time on the shelf go by quietly, recently defeating Quentin Wright in a wrestling match in Agon Wrestling Championships. UFC president Dana White has said that they’re going to wait out Askren’s Bellator matching period before they offer him anything, but the bout is a possibility in the future. If GSP can get by Hendricks on November 16th, I’m sure the chatter for a GSP/Askren match will pick up a bit more.
