
For the third time in their MMA careers Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez fought for the UFC Heavyweight championship Saturday night at UFC 166 in Houston, TX. In their first meeting at UFC on Fox 1, dos Santos claimed the title with a first round KO. Cain responded at UFC 155 with a completely dominant unanimous decision victory.
In the rubber match, both fighters found success. Throughout the fight, dos Santos found opportunities to land big blows on Cain that very few other professional fighters could withstand. However, Velasquez was undeterred. He pushed forward through the punches to repeatedly put JDS’ back against the fence and work him over. In the third round, he rocked dos Santos and almost finished. he dominated the rest of the round, but JDS was still able to land shots in the fourth. In the fifth and final round, dos Santos turtled after a failed guillotine attempt and Cain earned the stoppage victory.
