Fans of the Stockton brawler had reason to be excited earlier this week when he and Cesar Gracie teammate Gilbert Melendez indicated that the Welterweight would be interested in “big fights”. UFC Middleweight Michael Bisping promptly offered to fight him, if the former contender felt like moving up to 185 lbs.
While the fight would surely garner interest, UFC president Dana White doesn’t seem too sure if it’s enough to pull Diaz out of retirement (from MMA Fighting):
“I love that fight. I love that fight,” White gushed. “I like it. But everything I hear from Nick Diaz is he doesn’t want to fight.
“But I love that fight. Fun fight.”
As it stands, Diaz has been “retired” since he lost his title fight in a one-sided unanimous decision to Georges St. Pierre at UFC 158. The loss was Diaz’s second in a row and leaves him sporting a 1-2 record in his most recent UFC run. Considering he’s been retired for under a year and is already talking about returning to the Octagon, don’t be surprised when Nick’s next fight is announced.
