
Tonight sees the return of the UFC to the Fox Sports 1 airwaves, the new home where the promotion has become the highest ratings draw on the network. In the main event of tonight’s card is a compelling welterweight bout between Jake Shields and Demian Maia.
The card gets underway with the Fox Sports 1 prelims at 5 p.m. ET. The main card will get underway at 7 p.m. ET.
This post will cover the preliminary fights. Here’s how the prelims break down:
Welterweight – Ildemar Alcantara vs Igor Araujo
Welterweight – Yan Cabral vs David Mitchell
Flyweight – Iliarde Santos vs Chris Cariaso
Lightweight – Allan Patrick vs Garret Whiteley

Allan Patrick vs Garret Whiteley Round 1 Marc Goddard is the ref. Patrick takes center cage and shoots in for a take down immediately. Has Whitely down near the cage. Whitely stands up they remain clinched. They separate. Brazilian crowd chanting for Patrick. Whitely eats a low kick and a break is called. Patrick throws a spinning capoeira kick that misses. Whitely lands an uppercut. Patrick lands a hook and a spinning elbow. Charges in behind some knees. They clinch up in cage center. Whitely lands a knee. Throws a front kick. Low kick by Whitely. Patrick drops him with a left hand! He follows up and finishes on the ground. Allan Patrick defeats Garret Whitely via TKO at 3:54 of Rd 1.
Iliarde Santos vs Chris Cariaso Keith Peterson is the ref. Round 1 Extended feeling out process to start the fight. Santos is clearly bigger. Cariaso lands a leg kick. Santos moving forward. Santos with a trip take down to side control. Moves right to mount and lands some hard right hands to the face. Cariaso gets to half guard, gets the underhook and tries to cage walk. Santos gets back to mount, then back mount. Cariaso stands, Santos attacks the leg. They scramble back to a clinch against the cage, Cariaso backed up against it. They separate and Santos lands a body kick on the break. Checks a leg kick. Santos lands a sharp 2 punch combo near the fence. Cariaso fires back with a body kick. Santos shoots for a double. Cariaso gets an overhook. Santos gets the double and plants Cariaso with 30 seconds left. Bloody Elbow scores the round 10-9 for Santos.
Round 2 Cariaso with a high kick to open the action. Santos backing him up. Santos lands a counter, puts a mouse under Cariaso’s left eye. Cariaso landing and moving. Santos answers with a left. Santos landing punches, a knee, another. The Brazilian crowd is chanting their support. Cariaso hurts him with a right. Santos on the stanky leg. Santos backing up. Cariaso comes in. Santos falls, Cariaso follows him down. Santos in half guard trying to defend. Cariaso raining down the blows. They stand and Santos lands a knee. Santos has a bloody nose. Looks wobbly. Cariaso lands a right. Throws a head kick. Santos charges in and forces the clinch. Body kick from Cariaso. Combo from Cariaso staggers Santos. Santos is a bloody mess and he falls briefly. Cariaso has him backed up against the cage and the ref jumps in. Pretty quick stoppage. Chris Cariaso def. Illiarde Santos via TKO (punches) at 4:31 of Round 2.
Yan Cabral vs David Mitchell – Round 1 – Cabral with a quick takedown and he has the back. He’s got both hooks in quickly and he’s trying to work a choke. Mitchell gets him off his back but eats a lot of punches now and Cabral is switching from striking to attacking with passes and he’s into side control. They end the round on the feet, but Cabral really owned the round. 10-9 Cabral.
Round 2 – Cabral tags Mitchell as he’s rushing forward and drops him, now Cabral back on top and attacking but Mitchell is able to stand up about halfway through the round. Still a Cabral round. 10-9 Cabral.
Round 3 – Another takedown by Cabral about a minute into the round and he owns the rest of the round. Not a ton to type out, just dominant in his control. 10-9 Cabral.
Official scorecards: 30-27 across the board for Cabral.
Ildemar Alcantara vs Igor Araujo – Round 1 – Araujo circles, lands a right, a kick to the body and closes distance. He can’t get a takedown and now Alcantara has him turned against the cage. Close to a finish on a deep choke for Alcantara but he can’t get it. Close round, but a 10-9 Alcantara.
Round 2 – Araujo with a takedown and he’s on top working elbows to the side of Alcantara’s head. Alcantara looks like he’s fading, but between rounds, Araujo sat on the mat before his corner could get the stool in. 10-9 Araujo.
Round 3 – Araujo with a trip takedown and he’s right back on top with about four minutes left Alcantara looking for a kimura. Araujo lightly punching now and Alcantara tries for a heel hook, Araujo with some hammerfists to the thighs. The round ends, mercifully. 10-9 Araujo.
