Well that was nasty. Rousimar Palhares had a lot of pressure on him coming into his welterweight debut against Mike Pierce at UFC Fight Night 29, but he definitely delivered. The leglock specialist picked up a 31-second submission win over Pierce, making him tap to what was announced as an ankle lock. Ken Shamrock would be proud.

Pierce got a a takedown immediately, and Palhares went for a leg immediately. Pierce fought him off and backed off, but Palhares jumped up and went for his own takedown. He sat back with a leg clamp and then went for a heel hook. Pierce was okay for a second, but then screamed in pain and tap. Palhares held it a little longer than he should have and Pierce tapped again.

The win ends Palhares’ two fight losing streak, and drops Pierce’s UFC record to 9-4 overall.
