The UFC post-fight awards were handed out following the 10 bouts that took place in Barueri. Per the UFC News Twitter account, “Fight of the Night” went to Raphael Assuncao vs. T.J. Dillashaw, “Knockout of the Night” to Dong Hyun Kim, and Rousimar Palhares’ controversial submission over Mike Pierce does not earn him a bonus at all:
#UFCFightNight $50k bonuses: Fight of the Night – Assuncao vs. Dillashaw. KOTN: Dong Hyun Kim. No sub “due to unsportsman-like conduct”

Interestingly enough, Assuncao, Dillashaw, and Kim are all first time recipients of these “Of the Night” bonuses.
The FOTN and KOTN decisions weren’t particularly difficult, but all the attention is obviously on the denial of Palhares’ $50,000. His 31 second heel hook win over Mike Pierce is under review by the Brazilian AC after replays suggested that Palhares held onto the submission well after Pierce had tapped and referee Keith Peterson tried to separate the two fighters. Palhares also said this after the bout:
Wow. PALHARES: “If I win Submission of the Night, I’ll donate my bonus to Doctors without Borders.”

We’ll see what Palhares’ future with the UFC looks like. He was previously suspended for not letting go of a heel hook against Tomasz Drwal even after Drwal had tapped and the referee had moved in to stop the fight. The Brazilian welterweight is also coming off a suspension for elevated testosterone levels following his loss to Hector Lombard.
UPDATE 11:04 PM ET: According to Marshall Zelaznik, the UFC will re-evaluate their decision upon the commission’s review on the length of time that Palhares held onto the leg.
Zelaznik: Commission looking into length of time that Palhares held his sub – bonus/UFC action will be reevaulated once investigation done.
