Saturday night, HBO Boxing featured a super welterweight clash between Miguel Cotto and Delvin Rodriguez. Cotto entered the Amway Center in Orlando, FL coming off two consecutive losses for the first time in his career. In contrast, Rodriguez is riding a 2-fight win streak. Prior to the main event, Terence Crawford and Andrey Klimov met in a lightweight bout.
Miguel Cotto knocked out Delvin Rodriguez at 0:18 of round 3
Cotto made a statement to any that doubted him after his last two losses. He took control through the first round out by outworking Rodriguez and punishing the body. He poured it on throughout the second round with even more brutal blows to the body, then rocked his opponent at the bell. After smelling blood, it took Cotto only seconds into the third to end the fight with a vicious left hand.
Terence Crawford defeats Andrey Klimovby unanimous decision (100-90 x 3)
While not nearly as bad as the Klitschko vs. Povetkin bout from earlier in the day, this was far from the most exciting fight. Crawford took the lead on the scorecards early. He avoided most of Klimov’s one-off shots and found some opportunities to get inside and hit him with combos. Those opportunities were few and far between but enough to earn him the decision after the 10 round fight.
