Featherweight Rodrigo Damm has been forced to withdraw from his preliminary card fight against Hacran Dias, four days before UFC Fight Night 29 in Barueri, Brazil. The UFC confirmed the news on Twitter earlier today, and MMA Fighting’s Guillherme Cruz reports that Damm once again has suffered from kidney problems:
Damm (11-6) was expected to face Hacran Dias (21-2-1) in a featherweight bout in Barueri, Brazil, but suffered from kidney stones while cutting weight for the fight. With four days remaining until the event, the UFC decided to remove Dias from the card.Damm has had previous issues with weight-cutting. After two wins at TUF: Brazil 1, the featherweight was forced to leave the show in the semifinals, when he was expected to meet Hugo Viana, when he suffered from kidney problems.
This news comes just one week after Brazilian fighter Leandro Souza died hours before the Shooto 43 weigh-ins. Reports last week state that Souza suffered a fatal stroke during his cut to 125 lbs.
Damm last fought in June, edging out Mizuto Hirota by split decision. Dias was coming off a loss to current top 10 featherweight Nik Lentz. With Dias/Damm canceled, the preliminary card will feature just 4 fights in total, and all of them will air on Fox Sports 1 starting at 5 PM ET/2 PM PT.
