Anthony Birchak submitted underdog Tito Jones in the second round to claim the open MFC Bantamweight title last night at MFC 38 held in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and airing on AXS-TV. After the fight Birchak said, “I saw him in the corner [between rounds] and I just saw his hands on his hips. If I could be in his head, he was probably like, ‘Yeah, I’ve got another round.’ Once I got on top he wasn’t defending himself. I didn’t want to try to punch myself out… so I went for the submission.”

Two other titles were also up for grabs last night at MFC 38.

Sam Alvey waited until nearly the last possible second to TKO Jason South and take the MFC Middleweight title. At 4:56 of the fifth and final round, South swung wildly and Alvey caught him with a nice counter that dropped him into the ropes and finished the bout. Alvey competed on the 16th season of The Ultimate Fighter.

In the third title fight of the night, Anthony Hamilton flattened Smealinho Rama just 12 seconds into round two to claim the MFC heavyweight championship. Hamilton trains with UFC contender Travis Browne.
