Bloody Elbow will have live fight coverage, including results and discussion, right here.
Sometimes you have even fights, sometimes you have fights where one man is the star. Here, there’s a star. Maybe. One of the most talked about and frequently frustrating fighters in boxing today, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr’s career is one of big highs and big lows. Undefeated through his first 48 fights, Chavez now has to deal with rebounding from a loss for the first time in his career as he is coming off his dramatic decision loss to Sergio Martinez one year ago. Though that fight was a loss where Chavez was dominated for 11 rounds, his near miracle comeback in the final 3 minutes is the lasting image of the fight, and it’s an image that is kind to Chavez.
The time since that epic round has been less kind. Post-fight, Chavez tested positive for marijuana, costing him close to $1,000,000 plus a 9 month suspension. During his time away, he’s put on weight, forcing this fight to move up from the originally planned 160 pounds to 168, while also splitting with trainer Freddie Roach who cited Chavez’s legendary lack of commitment in training as the reason for the split. Now, Chavez will look to get some positive attention as he hopes to get back on the winning track against the solid but outmatched Bryan Vera.

Also on the card is Adonis Stevenson vs. Tavoris Cloud. Stevenson fights here for the first time since scoring what I still consider to be the KO of the year in his defeat of Chad Dawson in June. This is a major crossroads for Stevenson. A loss makes him a flukey flash in the pan – a win, particularly another big KO win, keeps his red hot streak going strong. Opponent Tavoris Cloud is coming off the first loss of his pro career when he fell victim to the Bernard Hopkins game in March. Cloud is a good, stiff test for Stevenson, and this should be an exciting fight.
A third fight on the broadcast set to feature David Haye vs. Tyson Fury was cancelled last week due to a cut suffered by Haye in training. Look for this fight to be rescheduled next year.
