Old School MMA Review: UFC 7 – Marco Ruas wins, nobody cares

The Fight Nerd and Zane Simon return to once again nitpick the no-holds-barred era of mixed martial arts, this time with a look at the SEG Ultimate Fighting Championship pay-per-view, UFC 7: The Brawl in Buffalo!

On this episode, we take a look at one of the more forgettable UFC tournaments that features the octagon debut of Marco Ruas and his glorious foot stomping tactics, the triumphant return of veterans Paul Varelans, Remco Pardoel, and Harold Howard, and we lament the disappearance of Jim Brown in favor of Don “The Dragon” Wilson. Plus, the superfight between Ken Shamrock and Oleg Taktarov, which is just barely better than Shamrock VS Severn 2 from UFC 9. Just barely.

Don’t forget to check out Zane Simon’s UFC 7 Fighter Redux piece for more info on the combatants in this tournament, and support the official DVD release of UFC 7 in hopes that Zuffa keeps making more!

Which brings us to our poll question this week – was Marco Ruas the most well-rounded fighter that we had seen in the octagon at this point in history? You decide!
