It’s been six years since the UFC visited the capital of California, but that drought ends this December. Yesterday the UFC confirmed that the final Fox event of 2013 will take place at the Arco Arena in Sacramento on December 14th:
RT @UFCONFOX BREAKING: The next #FOXUFCSaturday will be on December 14th in SacTown!
— UFC (@ufc) September 4, 2013
The last time the UFC visited Sacramento was for UFC 73, which featured the UFC debut of Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Anderson Silva’s TKO over Nate Marquardt, Kenny Florian’s declaration of “I finish fights!” after he stopped Alvin Robinson, and Tito Ortiz drew Rashad Evans in a heated light heavyweight bout.
While the UFC has been noticeably absent from Sac-Town, the WEC has not. After Zuffa purchased the WEC and branched out beyond Lemoore, CA, they went to Sacramento four times, including for the 2010 PPV headlined by Urijah Faber and Jose Aldo.
No fights have been announced but you have to think that Faber, who was on all of the WEC Sacramento shows, will be a part of this one. The question is who will he fight? Could it be a “superfight” with Frankie Edgar? Or perhaps a #1 contender matchup against Michael McDonald? Expect some news surrounding this show, which will be heavily advertised on Fox’s NFL broadcasts, over the coming weeks.
