Jon Jones: ‘I have no wishes to fight Dan Henderson’

Jon Jones was set to fight Dan Henderson at UFC 151 before an injury forced Hendo off the card and the cancellation of the entire event. Since that time, Jones has gone on to beat Vitor Belfort and bludgeon Chael Sonnen in a pair of “nobody was asking for it” fights while Henderson has lost two fights — both split decisions — against Lyoto Machida and Rashad Evans.

Jones recently told MMA Mania that he has no remaining interest in a fight with Henderson:

“I have no wishes to fight Dan Henderson,” Jones told MMAmania.com. “Dan Henderson is a guy who, you know, he’s done a lot for this sport already, he’s a lot older. I think he’s a guy a lot of people would expect me to beat anyways. So I have no big dreams of fighting Dan Henderson.”

“[Henderson’s] last fight with Rashad Evans you could really see him starting to slow down,” Jones said. “So fighting him I don’t think really proves much.”

Jones currently is scheduled to fight Alexander Gustafsson, one of the few legitimate challenges left at 205. Having stated a desire to break the light heavyweight title defense record and then move up to heavyweight, it’s entirely possible that the Gustafsson fight will be the last time that we see Jones at light heavyweight before moving up to seek new challenges.
