Sportscenter’s Twitter account gave very short notice earlier that something interesting in the MMA world would be announced when it sent the following tweet:
The big announcement was actually big this time as Dana White announced that Chris Weidman and Anderson Silva would indeed rematch at UFC on December 28. Weidman took Silva’s title at UFC 162 in a shocking upset — shocking despite close odds.
White said that the deal was done just an hour ago with both men signing their bout agreements. “I expect a totally different fight. I don’t think he’s going to go out and taunt him,” said White of what he expects in the rematch. He also stressed that it would be the biggest fight in UFC history.
Ronda Rousey vs. Miesha Tate will be moved to the co-main event of the event.
Sportscenter also aired a short video of Anderson Silva discussing the rematch where the former champ said “I go back to fight Weidman and Anderson Silva. I back. Trust me, I back.”
