Back at UFC 160, T.J. Grant capped off a 5-fight win streak with an unexpected first round KO of Gray Maynard. The win earned him the right to face Lightweight champion Benson Henderson at UFC 164. Not long after, there were talks that his contender status may be in jeopardy when Anthony Pettis pulled out of his scheduled fight and started pushing for a title shot of his own. Grant assured his fans that there was nothing to worry about. It looks like he spoke to soon.
Friday night, MMA Junkie reported that Grant suffered an injury in training and was forced from the bout. In his place is, of course, Anthony Pettis, who seems pretty excited about the opportunity:
Pettis and Henderson met once before at WEC 53. After an incredibly close fight, Pettis took the decision following the infamous “Showtime Kick”. They’ll face each other again at UFC 164 in Pettis’ hometown of Milwauke, WI on August 31.
