Shortly after Georges St. Pierre’s last Welterweight title defense, Johny Hendricks was announced as the next challenger. The decision came as no surprise to most fight fans as Hendricks had reeled off 4 consecutive top 10 wins to cap off a 6 fight win streak. Now, Johny and Georges both have a date to look forward to their fight.
Ariel Helwani reported on Tuesday’s episode of UFC Tonight:
The scheduled date isn’t surprising since it’s consistent with when he and his team projected he’d return after announcing the injury he fought Nick Diaz with at UFC 158. However, the location is notable. GSP hasn’t fought outside of Canada in over three years and 5 fights when he faced Dan Hardy at UFC 111 in New Jersey. Before that it was UFC 100 where he fought Thiago Alves.
No venue or other fights have yet been announced for be UFC 167. Bloody Elbow will keep you posted as more news comes out.
