Ryan Jimmo vs. Igor Pokrajac — Light-heavyweight division
The bout began flat with Jimmo shrinking the gap and tying up Pokrajac with underhooks on the fence, prompting referee Yves Lavigne to intervene three consecutive times. Jimmo was effective in stifling Pokrajac’s aggressive and fearsome boxing by entangling him with control-based clinching but, though he landed a few short knees, it was not an edge-of-your-seat opening round. In the 2nd, Jimmo followed a leaping left jab with a right over the top that stunned Pokrajac, and the Canadian karateka enjoyed some top-side control while the Croatian recovered, cracking Jimmo with an up-kick off his back shortly after.
Pokrajac was close to nailing a trip from the clinch but Jimmo’s hips were too strong and he reversed momentum, landing in Pokrajac’s guard and setting the tone in the last stanza. Jimmo got a little careless with his posture toward the round’s conclusion but managed to squirm his way out of Pokrajac’s guillotine attempt. “The Duke” got back to his feet and Jimmo kept him smashed on the fence without much offense, inspiring Pokrajac to hold both arms out with a frustrated look while Jimmo held him in place.
Jimmo admitted after the decision was announced that he’d fought “conservatively” and apologized for it.
- Ryan Jimmo defeats Igor Pokrajac by unanimous decision (30-27 x 3)
