Jon Jones has been on an absolute tear the past couple of years, defeating every opponent that Joe Silva and the UFC have placed in front of him. Without question, he’s the most dominant light heavyweight champion in UFC history, and there aren’t many challenges left at 205 pounds for him.
However, one of those challenges is Alexander Gustafsson, who is currently riding a six-fight winning streak, with wins over Thiago Silva and Mauricio Rua. Many feel that Gustafsson possesses the boxing and size to compete with Jones, who has had a reach advantage over every fighter he’s faced in the octagon.
He was set to earn a shot at Jones, but a cut over his eye scratched him from his bout with Gegard Mousasi at UFC on Fuel TV 9 in Sweden. Since being forced from that bout, the talks of a title shot have all but ended.
That is, until now.
This afternoon, Gustafsson uploaded the above photo to his personal instagram account with the words “It’s On!!!!!” as the caption. Both fighters were in attendance at the Legend Fighting event in Moscow headlined by Alexander Emelianenko facing Bob Sapp.
With Jones out at least for the summer, the bout has yet to be been signed. But it looks like both guys are ready to face one another in the UFC cage.
