UFC 160 results: Robert Whittaker stops Colton Smith with strikes in round 3

In each fighters’ first bout since winning their respective seasons of The Ultimate Fighter, Welterweights Robert Whittaker and Colton Smith met in the FX prelims of UFC 160.

Whittaker looked incredibly composed early in round 1. He kept his lead left hand all the way down by his hip, but managed to counter Smith repeatedly and defend any takedown attempts. Smith’s nose was red and bleeding halfway through the round. Whittaker showed he was by far the better fighter. Smith rushed Whittaker and landed a right hand that dropped Robert. He followed him to the ground but couldn’t maintain control before the bell rang.

Smith came out swinging but the counters from Whitaker dropped him twice inside the first 30 seco0nds of round 2. Solid combo from Smith. Whittaker responded with an uppercut, left hook combination. Smith came in flury but ate a counter before landing a low kick. I have no idea why Smith keeps shaking his hands. Smith threw wild shots, but couldn’t land while Whittaker teed off on counters and bloodied him up.

The fight really started to get sad for Colton early in the 3rd round. He put everything he had into his combos, but Whittaker stayed back and landed his own shots at will. Finally, Robert dropped Smith and followed up with ground and pound to get the stoppage.
