After a little shoving at the weigh-ins, Lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov met Abel Trujillo in the Octagon as the opening fight of the UFC 160 FX prelims.
The fight got off to a slow start before Trujillo hit a takedown about a minute and a half in. Nurmagomedov responded with an armbar attempt that had Abel scrambling. When Trujillo finally escaped, Khabib took control in the clinch. He tossed his opponent several times while mixing in strikes. Abel warned for grabbing the fence. Trujillo somersaulted out of a suplex attempt to take top position but got caught in a triangle. Khabib rolled to mount and then returned to his back in the closing seconds but wasn’t able to finish Abel before the bell rang.
Trujillo tried to turn it around early in round two with a big left hand that shook Khabib, but he wasn’t able to capitalize. Nurmagomedov responded with a solid right hand of his own before clinching up and taking back control with a takedown. He locked in body triangle as Trujillo bellied-down. After a crazy scramble, Khabib took control of Abel’s back again. As the round closed, Nurmagomedov landed some decent strikes from back control.
Early into round 3, Khabib clinched up for yet another takedown on Abel. Trujillo was obviously frustrated here and he had no answer for the far superior grappling of his Russian opponent. Nurmagomedov completely dominant here as he landed a big suplex. Trujillo was entirely outclassed and always a step behind throughout the final fram.
Khabib Nurmagomedov dominated Abel Trujillo to win the unanimous decision (30-27 x 3).
