Sources confirmed with Bloody Elbow on Tuesday that Tyrone Spong will compete in GLORY’s upcoming eight-man, one-night tournament in New York City on Jun. 22.

Spong has been added to a field already consisting of Brian Collette, Danyo Ilunga, Filip Verlinden, Mourad Bouzidi, Steve McKinnon and Koichi. Sources also confirmed that Dustin Jacoby would be the final addition to the braket. Jacoby earned the slot after scoring a knockout of Brian Collette at the ‘Road to Glory USA’ finals in February. The winner of the night’s one-night light-heavyweight tournament walks away with a check for $250,000.

After initially having visa issues that disrupted his training with his Blackzilians camp in Miami, Spong was forced to pull out of a scheduled MMA fight against Angel DeAnda at World Series of Fighting 3 on Jun. 14. Given that GLORY’s New York City event and WSOF 3 take place in back-to-back weeks, it seems Spong elected to stick with what’s more familiar. Spong made his MMA debut with the organization at WSOF 1 in November 2012, scoring a first round knockout of Travis Bartlett.

Previously announced, Romanian heavyweight star Daniel Ghita faces Brice Guidon in the night’s main event. Additionally, ‘Bazooka’ Joseph Valtellini takes on Francois Ambang while Brett Hlavacek squares off with Paul Marfort.
