UFC 159 results: Bryan Caraway chokes out Johnny Bedford with a late 3rd round guillotine

The Bantamweights got the action started on the FX prelims for UFC 159 with Bryan Caraway stepping in on short notice to face Johnny Bedford. The fight was slow through the first two rounds, but Caraway pulled out a surprising submission win in the closing seconds of the final round.

The fight started out with both men swinging in the center of the cage. An accidental eyepoke shrugged off by Bedford. Caraway slipped behind Johnny to score a takedown from the back clinch. He got back control, but Bedford escaped. Some solid shots landed by Bedford before Caraway scored another takedown in the closing seconds of round 1.

Right from the bell in Round 2, Bryan started looking for the takedown. Bedford shrugged the attempts off well. Bedford landed the better shots in the exchanges while a cut bled above his right eye. Both men started to slow down. Caraway scored a takedown with about 2 minutes left. Bryan advanced to side control but Bedford made it difficult to do damage.

Lots missed strikes started off the final round of the fight. Bedford hit a switch on Caraway’s takedown attempt, but quickly lost position and ended up beneath Bryan. Caraway advanced position and got ahold of Bedford’s neck. He rolled to his back and locked in the guillotine. He was forced to adjust position, but managed to get the tap with only seconds left on the clock.

Bryan Carway submitted Johnny Bedford at 4:44 of round 3 with a guillotine choke.
