Earlier today, we reported that expected UFC on Fuel TV 9 headliner Alexander Gustafsson had suffered a cut in training. While the details of how the injury occurred are unclear, his camp did confirm the injury. Additionally, three doctors from the SMMAF said that the cut was bad enough to warrant a few week’s healing time before Alex would be ready to fight, so it seemed likely that his bout with Gegard Mousasi would be cancelled.
However, it seems UFC president Dana White remains optimistic:
Hopefully, White’s is correct and the highly anticipated bout goes on as planned. Leading up to the event planned for this Saturday, April 6, Dana has said that Alex could earn a title shot with a win over Mousasi. Gustafsson being removed from the main event would obviously throw a big wrench into the UFC’s plans for the Light Heavyweight division.
