UFC heavyweight Christian Morecraft has been out of action for just over a year, and it appears that he won’t be fighting again any time soon. Morecraft, aged just 26, announced on Facebook that he was leaving the sport “for right now”. Here’s the full message via MMA Fighting:
“There’s plenty of ex-professional athletes out there who are lost, broke, and jobless when competing is over, so with that being said trying to find an easier way to make a living and most importantly be happy … I’m saying goodbye to the fight business for right now. Nothing’s set in stone because we all know that nothing in life is, but for now I’ve got some other matters to take care of. Thank you all for your support over the years. Thank you and god bless everyone,” his post said in part.
Morecraft went just 1-3 in the UFC. He debuted at UFC 117 in August 2010 against Stefan Struve, and lost by TKO in the 2nd round after dominating the 1st. His sole victory came in 2011, sending Sean McCorkle out of the UFC with a standing guillotine choke. Morecraft’s final two fights were KO losses to Matt Mitrione and Pat Barry. Last September he was arrested and charged with DUI, but interestingly enough the UFC never officially released him.
