On March 23 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, “World Series of Fighting” held their second event at the Revel Casino. Headlined by a main event bout between Andrei Arlovski and Anthony Johnson that became an epic three-round heavyweight slugfest, the rest of the main card featured a few big knockouts and upsets.
In what started as a pretty exciting fight, Justin Gaethje defeated JZ Cavalcante due to a referee stoppage from a cut. Cavalcante marched around the ring protesting it, but in the end took the loss in stride, while Justin may have cemented a spot for himself in future events.
The fight that many fans were looking forward to was Aaron Simpson VS Josh Burkman, which was predicted to be an all-out war. Burkman played a smart game, landing solid knees until he hit the perfectly timed one that put Simpson out cold. Lucky for me, I got the shot of the knee landing, and Simpson going to sleep after!
Paulo Filho overcame anxiety and panic attacks to make it to “The Garden State” in time for the show, but had little to offer against Dave Branch. The Renzo Gracie disciple picked apart the WEC and Pride FC veteran on the feet and on the ground, absolutely dominating him for three rounds to earn the decision victory.
Marlon Moraes scored a picture-perfect head kick to Tyson Nam to knock him out and prove that he is no fluke in WSOF. I am not sure how it sounded on TV, but in person, it was like a baseball bat just connected with a ball for a home run. These guys were tough to shoot, constantly moving around, and while I did manage to catch the knock out with my camera, it was not focused enough to add to this gallery. Sorry guys, you will have to stick to the GIF’s to enjoy that one!
