Nick Diaz might have talked about retirement after his UFC 158 main event loss to Georges St. Pierre tonight, but not so fast. According to the former Strikeforce champ, who attended the post-fight press conference even after Dana White said he wasn’t going to show, he thinks he can beat the champ and wants a rematch:
“The only reason I’m here right now is because I want a rematch. (To GSP) I think I can beat you. I think I may be a better matchup for Anderson Silva as well.”
GSP just nodded his head at both suggestions and didn’t really betray and emotions in the face of the requests, but it’s pretty obvious that neither of those things are going to happen. UFC president Dana White made it clear that GSP will be meeting Johny Hendricks next, though he wouldn’t speculate on where or when that might happen. Diaz later suggested that the UFC might match him up with Carlos Condit again, and he said he’d have to figure out whether that was worth it for him or not.
In typical Diaz fashion, he continued to talk of retirement but did his best to plant the seeds for a bunch of potential bouts as well, talking about every welterweight on the panel for the press conference. I will follow this post up with a complete transcript of Nick’s comments at the press conference but suffice to say, he stole the show once again.
