Johny Hendricks won’t trash talk way into a GSP fight: ‘I don’t want to be that kind of douchebag’

There isn’t much of a case to be made that Johny Hendricks isn’t the most deserving man for a shot at the UFC welterweight championship currently held by Georges St. Pierre. But tomorrow night, at UFC 158, he’ll be stepping into the Octagon to face Carlos Condit in the co-main event while Nick Diaz gets a shot at GSP.

Hendricks spoke to the media and had some pretty strong thoughts when asked if he thought Diaz was getting a title shot by “talking his way” into it:

You don’t have to be a tough fighter to talk trash, you know what I mean? That’s what made this sport what it is.

I don’t trash talk because like I said earlier I have too much respect for anybody. But there is a point in time where enough is enough. And I think if I get through Carlos Condit, GSP doesn’t have nothing to stand on. He can’t go after anybody else except for me and I can’t wait for that day.

I can trash talk, you know…I can talk anything but because I don’t know GSP. I can say he is this, this, this and this, but it doesn’t mean if it’s true or not. Know what I mean? I could easily do that, but I don’t want to be that kind of douchebag. I want to look across the octagon and say ‘you have not faced anybody like me.’ That’s what his main little quote is ‘you’ve never faced anyone like me.’ Bullshit! You’ve never faced anybody like me. That’s why he didn’t take the fight.
