UFC interim bantamweight champion Renan Barao will make an unprecedented second defense of an interim title in the main event of UFC 161 against Eddie Wineland, and oddsmakers like his chances. The Nova Uniao product has been installed as a pretty big favorite for the June 15th bout with the the former WEC champ. Check out the line (via BestFightOdds):
As usual, 5Dimes and SportBet were the first (and only) ones to get the line up this early. This odds should come as no surprise to most, except maybe people that thought it would be even wider. Barao (30-1, 1 NC) is 5-0 in the UFC and submitted top contender Michael McDonald in his last bout. Wineland (20-8-1) is a formidable opponent, but is only 2-2 in the UFC and was the top guy on a list of questionable title challengers. He’s coming off a split decision win over Brad Pickett at UFC 155 in December.
Unless you’re fond of betting on guys in the -400 range, this seems like an obvious no-touchy to me. Wineland could go as high as +350 and he’s still not worth betting on. There will be a lot of fights on the Winnipeg card with more value than this, so I’d advise you to wait a little while until those lines pop up.
