The UFC featherweight title will be defended this August after all. Champion Jose Aldo initially refused to fight Anthony Pettis, citing the UFC rankings and that Pettis did not deserve to fight him. Then we told you not even a few hours ago that Aldo was willing to fight Pettis but in a non-title bout. Well it looks like Aldo has changed his tune and he will be fighting Pettis in his next title defense. UFC president Dana White tweeted out the news:
Yes Aldo vs Pettis and it’s for Aldo’s UFC 145lb title

Damon Martin of Bleacher Report expanded a bit on White’s confirmation:
BREAKING: Jose Aldo vs Anthony Pettis is on for August.Dana just spoke to his manager, deal is done. #UFC #MetroPCS

The original fight date for Aldo/Pettis was August 4th, exactly one week after UFC on FOX 8, indicating that this will probably be a PPV event. It is unknown if the fight will remain in its original August 4th slot, but we do know that for the time being Jose Aldo is once again defending his title against a lightweight with 0 featherweight bouts.
UPDATE: Aldo will receive a shot at the Lightweight title if he’s able to defeat Pettis.
