Two welterweights desperately in need of their first UFC win will fight on the Facebook portion of the UFC 157 preliminary card, as Kenny Robertson (11-2 MMA, 0-2 UFC) fights Brock Jardine (9-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC). In total there are five welterweight fights on the card, and three of them are scheduled for the Facebook broadcast.
Robertson comes into this one as the underdog against the Utah native, but neither one of them has yet to even win a round in the UFC, so it’s a do-or-die situation tonight. How did these two get here?
Robertson badly needs a UFC win or else he’s facing another UFC release. He was set to debut against Pascal Krauss at UFC 122 but pulled out with an injury. Instead, he went on to fight Mike Pierce at UFC 126, where he lost by TKO. The UFC released him after just one fight, and he picked up an incredible spinning backfist KO over former UFC middleweight Lucio Linhares. He returned to the UFC in place of Jon Fitch to take on Aaron Simpson, but was thoroughly outwrestled en route to a decision loss.
Jardine has an awesome name, but his UFC future is in the balance if he goes 0-2. In regional competition he picked up 5 first round finishes out of 9 wins, and his sole loss came against future TUF 13 winner Anthony Ferguson. Brock debuted on short-notice against Rick Story last June and lost a lackluster unanimous decision. Now it’s must-win time for “The Machine” against Robertson.
