Heavyweight in the UFC is a division desperately in need of some clarification. What once seemed like a division on the brink of significant depth and a clear title picture has become muddled due to upsets and injury. Travis Browne was once seen as the potential future of heavyweight, a guy who would be in the title picture soon, only to run into the powerful hands of Antonio Silva — with a leg injury as well — and suffer a TKO loss.
Browne will be getting back in the ring in mid-April according to the UFC’s president:
Losing three of four fights had seen Gabriel Gonzaga released from the UFC in 2010, seemingly ending his time at the top of the sport and leaving his career as having peaked with a shocking knockout win over Mirko Filipovic and UFC heavyweight title loss to Randy Couture.
Gonzaga found himself back in the UFC in January 2012, submitting Ednaldo Oliveira in the first round.
He followed up with a big submission win over Ben Rothwell last month at UFC on FX: Belfort vs. Bisping.
A win by either man puts them one step closer to being in the discussion as a possible future title contender in a division badly in need of a few.
