Frankie Edgar won’t be going back to Lightweight to try and reclaim his old belt anytime soon if UFC president Dana White is correct.

From Dana’s media scrum post-presser following UFC 156:

“He’s not going to 55. That’s not going to happen.”

“I like Frankie Edgar a lot as a person. Take away the whole fighting thing – I like him as a person, as a human being, and I don’t ever want to see him at 155 pounds. The guys are too big and too strong at 155.

“Yes, I know he was the champion. I know he beat legends and had close fights and everything else, but you can only fight so long in those types of wars with bigger, stronger guys. It’s not good.”

Edgar beat B.J. Penn at UFC 112 in 2010 to claim the Lightweight belt then defended it at UFC 118 against Penn, UFC 125 (a tie with Gray Maynard) and UFC 136 (a KO win over Maynard) before losing it to Ben Henderson at UFC 144 and failing to reclaim it in a rematch at UFC 150.

He lost a five round unanimous decision to Featherweight champ Jose Aldo at this weekend’s UFC 156.
